Next time I’m in this sort of situation, mainly shooting aperture wide open with the Rolleiflex. I’m just going to have to risk the naturalness of the conversation and lean down and finely focus. Guessing by glancing down at the focus screen, is not productive. I only got one cleanly focused image out of the eight I took. In the case above I’m maybe 1/16 of an inch of turn on the focus knob off.

I went by again and we had a nice chat. Unfortunately, my focusing skills while trying to have a conversation about Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh are not so smooth. But I did manage to get one relatively in-focus.

Self with antiques lady, dog, small decorative lion
Wandered across this little antiques shop a few weeks ago. Was afternoon on a cloudless day and the sun was brilliant. An awning stretched far out over everything making it quite a dark scene, but I thought I might just be able to get something. I calculated for a second, quickly as I could, before she or her dog might look up, adjusted camera and myself for the mirror and snapped. Decided that I should wander by again another day and try to speak with her and take her portrait. To be continued.
